Obituary of William Harvey Winborne
William Harvey Winborne was called to rest on Saturday, November 16, 2019. He was born on June 28, 1936 to the late Alfred Winborne and Ida Boone Winborne in North Carolina.
William received his education in Roper, North Carolina. After graduation, he ventured to Washington, D.C. and obtained a job at Stone and Straw Company. Later, he returned to North Carolina to marry the love of his life Bernetta Basnight. After marrying Bernetta in 1955, he returned to D.C. with his new bride. Upon his return to D.C., he obtained a job at a power plant where he worked for several years. A few years later, he was hired by Greyhound Bus Co. as part of the management team. He remained at Greyhound for 39 years until his retirement. Once retired, sitting still was not for him, so he started his own trucking company called W & B Trucking.
William was a very caring and loving husband, father and grandfather. Throughout his life, he made many lasting friends. He loved football (Washington Redskins), basketball and car racing. William and Bernetta loved to entertain family and friends at their home on special occasions and sometimes just to gather together for fun and laughter.
William was surrounded by family and friends during his transition to his heavenly Father.
One son Kelvin Winborne preceded him in death.
William leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Bernetta, one son Gregory Winborne and two daughters Denise Ballard and Pamela Moon, four grandchildren Gregory Winborne Jr. (Lanae), Monique Ballard, Shanese Moon, Kiara Moon and eight great-grandchildren. Also survived by one brother Wilma Winborne (Peaches) of Florida, one sister Rixene Hall of Florida and a host of nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
