Please share a memory of Emmanuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Emmanuel “Money” Mills was born in New York City on July 15, 1959 to Melvin and Laura Mills. Melvin
was active duty in the Marine Corp when Money was born. Laura and Money would travel with Melvin
to each new duty station until the Vietnam war started. As a military child he was constantly on the
move and was educated all over the U.S. Once the war started Laura settled in Washington, D.C at 717
7 th Street N.E. He attended School Without Walls High School and graduated in 1976 at the age of 16.
He attended UDC for a week in 1976 but found it was not for him because everyone at there was old.
That summer he turned 17 and decided that he wanted to go into the military. He followed in his
father’s footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps. Joining the Marines fed the love for travel
developed in his youth as a military brat that would span his lifetime. After his tour in the Marines he
worked at a graphic design company doing topography. He developed a love for computers before they
became irreplaceable in our daily lives. He started out at the Veterans Administration in Seattle,
Washington. He would spend the next 35 years in the field working for prestigious companies like Zurich
North America, Microsoft and Premeara Blue Cross as well as government projects for Homeland
Security. He went back to school in his forties to complete his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in
Computer Science from DePaul University. He began his pursuit of a PHD at University of Oxford until his
health declined. He did all of this while raising a family.
Being a Cyber Security Engineer fed his love for travel. He worked all over the world from China, Europe,
the Middle East and South America. Traveling was his greatest pleasure. He was preceded by his father
in 1983. He is survived by his mother Laura Mills, his sister Teima Mills, his three sons Jason, Jonathan
and Jefferey Mills. His uncle Lawrence Tucker and nephews Joshua and Jeremy Mills, cousins Dorian
Hardin and Carlos Pizzaro and a host of other family and friends.
