I miss you so much Aunt Val. It's been almost a year since you peacefully went to rest. I just celebrated my 45th birthday. 5 years to 50 and I really can't believe it. I haven't visited you yet. I've been working really hard with school and my new job. Honestly it just hurts so bad that you're gone that I've just pushed through the pain of losing you. But today I make a vow to live well. I'm going to face my fear and visit your home where we've shared many memories and good laughs. You weren't only my Aunt but you were also my friend. We've shared and talked about some deep stuff and you respected me as a woman. You respected my story, never judged me and helped me face some hard truths about myself. Thank you for opening my heart up to the possibilities. God gave me some very precious moments with you. I remember anointing your head with oil and us praying before you had surgery. A beautiful moment between us two. I don't think I told you this but one day I got a call that you weren't doing too well. I walked out my office into the hallway. The security guard was playing your favorite song, Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper. I looked up and knew you were there and everything was going to alright. I took a picture so I would never forget that moment. A reminder that we serve a sovereign God. He was still God. He knew I needed to know you trusted him as your way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in darkness and I needed to do the same. Thank you for loving me and being my Aunt Val. Thank you for trusting me with those deep things we talked about. I praise God for these memories and I promise to get better in honor of your beautiful legacy. I'm choosing this day to live well. I love you Aunt Val. I will talk to you soon. Forever your niece, Damita

My Friend Val
We met at recess on the playground in the 5th grade & we were friends till May 1, 2020 (57 yrs.). I sang at their Wedding, Val was his Lady Love and Curtis was her Handsome Prince! In the mid-70s we were 20 something. Val & Curtis would give THE best house parties ever. We'd dance, and eat, and party until dawn. Then Val would send everyone home with plates upon plates of food wrapped in foil. Afiya feeds family and friends just like her Mom. Val was a beauty inside & out. She was the sweetest kindest person I knew. She gave a piece of her heart to everyone she met. These traits she gave to Stephanie. She was strong & persevering, focused & and true; and that's Jasmine through & through. She trained her girls "in the way they should go". They all have an intimate relationship with God. I'm grateful He allowed her to see them grow into the determined & courageous ladies God gave us the vision of so long ago. Val you were part of my life forever, & you'11ll be in my memory & my heart forever. Love Always, Tonya

Ms. Val you were always so kind to my son and I when we would visit. You always greeted us with open arms and a beautiful smile. Your warm and kind spirit always filled the room and seemed to make things feel just right. I am thankful to have been able to share moments with you and the girls. We will miss you!!!

Ma Val! My wife and I will never forget you! Your embrace was so loving and smile so radiant, you made us feel like we were part of your family. You were always a MAJOR source of Godly encouragement for us. Thank you for the years of love and support. We're thankful for having had the chance to enjoy your presence and feel the warmth of your embrace here on earth. We know you're with the Father now, so enter in and enjoy your rest. You've earned it. You were truly a rose gone too soon. We will continue to pray for the family, but we will miss you very much. Until we meet again...

Val, I will forever hold you dear to my heart “my sister “!! Our paths crossed in the late 90’s. Your spirit was always beautiful! You were a pleasure to be around whether it was shopping, in the kitchen or just sitting around sharing memories. Looking forward to seeing you in heaven!!! ❤️

Mom Val, I will miss you so much. I will miss the "hey baby" and "where my boys at". You welcomed me into your family just like so many others and I will never forget you. Your smile the last time I saw you and the joy you had will remain with me forever. Your memory will live on in so many of us. No more pain, you are now at peace. I love you!

To Sister Valrice’s beloved family, please accept our deepest condolences. She was a sweet, loving child of God who fought the good fight of faith. She could light up a room with her warmth and smile. We’ll all miss her.
