Raymond Northington Sr.

Obituary of Raymond Lee Northington Sr.

Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Raymond Lee Northington, Sr., son of the late James William Northington, Sr. and Lula Mae Walker Northington was born May 5, 1959 in South Hill, Virginia. He peacefully transitioned from this life on September 29, 2020.

When Raymond was in his teens, his family moved to Capitol Heights, Maryland where he attended Fairmont Heights High School. After high school, he loved his work as an expert heavy equipment operator and was eager to teach anyone who was willing to learn the skill.

Raymond married Cynthia Leatherbury and later divorced after 22 years. This union was blessed with two children, Raymond Lee and Natalie Marie Northington.

As an adult, Raymond joined Carmody Hills Baptist Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and proudly served as an usher for many years. He later attended various churches throughout the city.

Some of Raymond’s fondest pastimes included spending time with family and friends, playing dominoes, working on his grandfather’s farm, fixing EVERYTHING the MacGyver way, listening to oldies but goodies, visiting DC museums and monuments, and just talking and joking with anyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path.

Raymond leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Connie Northington of Suitland, MD; one brother, Jamonson Northington of District Heights, MD; three children, Kenetra Hardy of Danville, VA, Raymond Northington, II of North Hollywood, CA, and Natalie Northington of Clinton, MD; two grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

Preceding him in death: two brothers James Northington, Jr. and Michael Northington.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

courage to change the things I can,

and wisdom to know the difference. Reinhold Niebuhr

We love and miss you Raymond. You are always in our hearts!
