Obituary of George Stover Coleman
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing”
II Timothy 4:7-8
“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring Him those who sleep in Jesus.”
I Thessalonians 4:13-14
Mr. George Coleman was born May 12, 1922 to James and Annie Coleman of South Boston Va. He was one of eleven children (ten boys and one girl), all except one (Charles Coleman) have preceded him in death.
In the early 1960’s, George accepted Christ as his personal savior and never strayed from the word of God. He was a quiet man who rarely complained.
George didn’t have an easy life growing up. He grew up during the great depression. When he was 9 years old his father passed away and he and his brothers had to step up and become the men of the house for their mother and sister. He was a hardworking man who appreciated everything he was able to accomplish in life. He had many achievements during his long lifetime.
To his first union three children were born, Georgia Martin, Edwin Coleman and Phyllis Graham. On January 4th, 1951, he married Louise Thomas and to that union two daughters were born, Bonita Douglas and Norma Brooks.
He was employed by the Federal Government (David Taylor Model Basin) for 31 years until his retirement in 1980. He didn’t let retirement stop him though; he kept going and doing what he loved, working with his hands and woodworking until well into his 90’s. He loved people and enjoyed painting and building things. There was no job too big or too small for him to do.
On November 23, 2020 God called him home. He leaves to cherish his memory; His Brother Charles Coleman (Rachel), his children, Bonita Douglas, Norma Brooks (Howard) of Maryland, Georgia Martin, Edwin Coleman (Billie Jean) and son-in-law Cleo Graham of Richmond, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise Coleman and his daughter Phyllis Graham
George is an example of a life well lived and how God is able to keep you when you put your trust in Him!!
