Obituary of Robert Windell Medley
Robert Medley was born September 9, 1942 to the late Virginia Mae Medley and Francis Medley, Sr. The youngest for many years, he was the fifth child of six children: Francis Medley, Jr., Shirley Parker (deceased), Reginald Medley (deceased), Patricia Medley (deceased) and Gregory Medley. On Saturday, December 12, 2020, he transitioned to eternal rest. Robert was known for his sharp-witted sense of humor and powerful love of his closest family members. He was a strong force in his family and community and will be greatly missed.
At the age of six, he moved to 334 16th Street, Southeast, with his mother and siblings and lived there for most of his life. Over the years, he supported and cared for his grandparents, mother, siblings and extended family members. In winter of 1990, he welcomed his only daughter, Tameca Medley, into the world along with Jackie Williams. The two shared a strong relationship with one another, being nearly inseparable for much of his daughter’s life. As she grew, he most enjoyed sharing her accomplishments, being ever grateful for seeing each milestone. In 2017, his only granddaughter Marlee was born, giving him much joy in his new role as “Paw Paw”.
Along with his family members, Robert was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools but gained most of his knowledge through life’s experience.
He went on to start his career as a mechanic at the Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Stadium, working alongside his favorite sports team, The Washington Football Team (formally known as the Redskins). Working there for over 30 years, he encountered many events, games and concerts, collecting countless memorabilia from all his experiences. He was well known amongst his coworkers and considered them family. His coworkers described him as deeply knowledgeable, full of history and wisdom about almost everything.
Robert, known as “Ra” by many, was known for his great conversations and advice ranging from politics, football, finances and everything in between. He enjoyed playful banter with all his family members and loved helping them where he could. Most importantly he believed it was important to do what was right for his family.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his beloved daughter, Tameca Medley; two brothers Francis (Lorraine) Medley, Jr. and Gregory Medley; granddaughter, Marlee Campbell; nieces Sheila Parker and Demetria Medley; nephews Vincent Medley and Patrick Staten; a special grandniece Tia Martin; many grand and great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
