Obituary of Anthony Powell
A true Washingtonian, Anthony Powell, came into the world on October 13, 1959. Born and bred in the District of Columbia, its only fitting that he be celebrated in the city that raised him. As much as he loved his home on here on Earth, he traveled to his forever home in Heaven on January 12, 2021. There visiting with his Mother, Frances Mae Bell, his brothers, Kenneth Powell and Sylvester Bell, Jr. They are having a good time listening to music, watching westerns, playing basketball and talking smack.
His life will be remembered by his siblings, Michael Powell and Francina Bell. His children, Tiffany Wimbish, Arlinda Price, Monique price, Anthony “Lil Anthony” Price and Dulcie Powell. His grandchildren, Bobbi Timberlake, Briana Deas, Xoi McDonald, Xilei Price and Torian Wimbish. One day they will be together again for a cookout in Heaven, where he brings the meat, his radio and some boxed wine.
Affectionately known as “Big Anthony”, he spent his life learning and working in the District. A product of DC Public schools, he always had big dreams for himself. One of his greatest experiences was when he decided to continue his education. His proudest moment came in 2017, he walked across the stage with his Diploma in his hand. He worked in the procurement and hospitality industries, which he genuinely enjoyed. He loved meeting new people, making people laugh and made quite a few friends for life. Especially at Arnold & Porter where he made a tremendous impact on everyone that encountered him.
Known for being the life of the party, his larger-than-life personality, captivated all that met him. If he did not get you with that, it was how he dressed, how he smelled, how he danced, how he sang or how he made you laugh. There were many different sides to Anthony. He was Gospel, he was Jazz, he was Hip-Hop and everything in between. He would curse you out on Saturday and go to church with you on Sunday. He was most at peace listening to Will Downing and found the most joy in being in the country fishing, with his best friend Punt.
He was a fan of the ladies and had been married a few times. None quite measured up to his last relationship with Wendi Smith. Although their season has passed, she continued to help keep him encouraged until the end. She was a part of his family, something that meant the world to him. He always wanted to be surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He knew he was loved, and he made sure that his family knew they were loved by him. Reaching his final days, he knew he was not alone, he knew he could go, knowing that his family would stick together, and they would see him at the next big cookout.
