Obituary of Bishop Dwight David Brock

In the early morning of January 30, 2021 at 3:19 am, God called Bishop Dwight D. Brock from labor to reward.  

Dwight David Brock was born in the District of Columbia on Friday, December 17, 1954. He was the eighth of fourteen children born to the late Bishop William R. Brock, Sr., and Mother Agnes Brock. He was educated in the District of Columbia Public School System, where he attended Cardoza High School and earned his diploma in 1973. He developed a love for architecture and drafting which led him to pursue formal education. He became a certified Drafting Engineer through the Washington Drafting School in 1976. In his secular career he designed for some of the notable projects in our Nation’s Capital. He was also able to design for international clients. Due to his experience in the field, he became sought after by clients outside his employer, leading him to start his own Architectural Consulting Business. As an entrepreneur he was instrumental in the planning and developing of many building projects for his select clientele. He was also able to use his expertise to assist other pastors with their church building projects.  

Dwight was baptized in the precious name of Jesus at an early age. He received the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues on March 15, 1970 at the age of 15. He would often share the testimony of his Holy Ghost experience, describing it as an “Upper Room” encounter. He received the Holy Ghost upstairs in the church and shouted his way down the steps and out the door on to the street. Maybe that was an indication of his evangelical ministry to come. His love for God and passion for learning, stimulated him to advance his bible knowledge through higher Christian education. As a bible scholar he excelled in his studies at The Washington Saturday College, Howard University Campus. He became the recipient of a Bachelor of Religion, Master of Religion, and Doctorate of Ministry.  Dr. Brock’s exemplary performance as a student brought him notoriety by the Dean and President of his college. He was handpicked to join the teaching ranks and ultimately was appointed as Vice President of student affairs.

Dwight was a member of the Old Pentecost Church then pastored by his late grandfather, Bishop Benjamin Lumpkins. After Bishop Lumpkins transitioned in 1977, Dwight continued his faithful service unto God and the ministry under the leadership of his father, Bishop William R. Brock, Sr. In the early 80’s the Lord called him to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Dwight faithfully served in just about every capacity at the Old Pentecost Church from an Usher, to an Ordained Elder.

In September of 1987, Elder Brock founded the Christ Temple Apostolic Church by the divine direction of GOD. The ministry started with his immediate family and his sister (Joyce Brock-Griffith). The church grew with a focus on evangelism, prayer, and learning of God’s word.  He passionately pastored the small group while working diligently to grow the ministry where many souls received the baptism of the Holy Ghost.  Shortly after starting Christ Temple Apostolic, the Lord led him to come under the leadership of Apostle Leroy H. Cannady, who was the Presiding Prelate of The Way of the Cross Churches of Christ International. Pastor Brock served with the WOTC for 15 years holding offices on the diocese and national level.  God placed ministry in Pastor Brock that exceeded the local assembly. In 1992, Pastor Brock founded the Front Royal, Virginia Apostolic Crusade Ministry. He also founded the Apostolic Heritage Conference of Southern Maryland. In the year 2000, Pastor Brock expanded the ministry and established the Evangelistic Revival Time Ministries, Inc. He was consecrated as Bishop in the Lord’s church by his late father, Bishop William R. Brock, Sr., and a college of Bishops. 

Bishop Brock continued to be inspired by God for greater work. He and the church became affiliated with the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship (AWCF). Soon thereafter the anointing on his life was recognized by the chairman of the AWCF, Bishop Samuel Smith. The Chairman appointed Bishop Brock as the director of the Northeast Region of the AWCF, serving from the DC Metropolitan area along the east coast up to Maine. Bishop Brock was inspired by God to open a tuition free Apostolic learning institute that will equip people to be powerful leaders and ministers of Jesus Christ. Rowe Bible Institute was named after Bishop David and Bishop Worthy Rowe, the founders of the Apostolic World Christian Fellowship. Through RBI, Bishop was able to educate and develop leaders from around the globe. RBI became a blueprint for bible institutes both nationally and internationally. In his office as a Bishop, he opened his pulpit to many aspiring ministers. He also mentored many Elders and young pastors. Bishop Brock had a heart for unity in the body of Christ that transcended organization or church affiliation.  In the last decade Bishop Brock has become a spiritual covering throughout the United States, Haiti, and Kenya. One of Bishop’s foundational principles for ministry is that ministry does not stop, it is not circumstantial. Thus, you can find Bishop ministering to crowds or personally to individual. 

The summer of 1975 brought marital bliss as Dwight married the love of his life Donna P. Musgrove. They were inseparable for over 45 years, 7 months, 23 days until he transitioned peacefully. The love they shared between one another was contagious and in his words, “no air can come between them”. The relationship was one of patience and endurance as they both strived to be the best versions of themselves. Often times you could find them both ministering to families through counseling.  Many came to effectually call them dad and mom. From their loving union 4 beautiful children were born, David B. Brock (Carlotta); Shaun J. Brock (Patreese); April C. Brock, and Patricia I. Brock-Hunter (Javan); 7 grandchildren, Bryanna, Taelor, Brooke, Devyn, Elisha, Aidan, and Lillian. Bishop Brock leaves an Apostolic legacy to these.

Bishop Dwight Brock was proceeded in death by his late parents Bishop William and Agnes Brock, 2 sisters Diane and Pastor Rachell.  His lifelong friend, prayer partner, and brother proceeded him in death, Bishop Ronald L. Sanders, Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife First Lady Donna P. Brock, his 4 children, and 7 grandchildren. His church family, Greater Christ Temple Apostolic Ministries, spiritual sons and daughters, affiliated churches.  He also leaves his siblings, William, Sterling, Nadine, Joyce, Quentin, Ellis, Melvin, Ronald, Jeffrey, Keith, and LaRay. Along with is in laws, Denise, Bishop Thomas “Griff” Griffith, Jamie, Valerie, Michelle, Sheila, Victoria, Donald II (Wanda), Douglas, Lorraine (Emmett), La-Vern, Lynnette (Gregory), Anthony Mason, Joan Miller, and Donna Morris. Godchildren, Vincent Brown, William Musgrove, Paula Divers, Anetha Perry Tamara Ross, Christina Winn, A’leighsha Butler, and Breanna Brock. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His twin brother cousin District Elder Fletcher L. Davis, Jr. (Beverly).
