Obituary of Annie Mae Monroe

Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day... Acts 26:22

Annie Mae Monroe was born September 22, 1939 in Rockingham, North Carolina. She was the only child born to the union of the late Hezekiah and Annie Lee Monroe. Annie was a blossoming student in the North Carolina education system and a proud graduate of the Rockingham Colored High School.

After moving to the Washington, D.C. area, Annie joined the Temple Church of God In Christ family under the leadership of Bishop Samuel Kelsey. Bishop Kelsey quickly recognized her outstanding gifts and talents. She worked diligently in the many ministries of the church. Annie loved the Lord, served faithfully, and supported the vision of saving souls for the Kingdom until her health failed. In any given worship service, you could hear Annie’s favorite praise, “Thank God for Jesus”!

She had an amazing voice and loved to sing and worship through song. If not at the Temple, Annie could be found lifting the Name of Jesus with the Shields Singers, her recording group. The 10-14 Kids Choir was just one of many choirs at the Temple that Annie mentored. The Music Ministry was one of her favorites.

Annie started her career as a Mail Handler for the Washington, DC United States Postal Service, in late 1960. She worked many hourly shifts and accumulated many friends who remained loyal friends even after retirement in 2006.

It was a pure delight to be in Annie's company. She was affectionately called, Anne, Annie Mae, Pumpkin, and Possum. Annie’s smile and laughter was contagious. Her heart was as big as Texas, and if you were blessed to have her as your friend... you had family.

She leaves to cherish Precious Memories the pearls of her heart, daughter Courtney Dionne and grandsons, Courtland and Treylen; her loving aunt; Evangelist Marion Grice, of Newark, NJ, many cousins, a host of other relatives and many many friends.

Even though Annie was an only child, God in His Awesome Wisdom, provided a powerful and loving extended family just for her.

Annie is marked Absent... But, that’s alright now... She is Present with the Lord...
