Obituary of Anthony Leon Williams, Sr.
Remembering Anthony...
Style, compassionate, thoughtful, and protector best describes our dear Anthony Leon Williams, Sr. His huge heart allowed him to live life to fullest, laugh, and freely share of himself with family and friends.
Anthony “Tony” Williams quietly departed this life on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. The youngest of two, Anthony was born to Francis and Nannie Williams on June 6,1965, in Washington, D.C. A resident of Alexandria, Virginia, Anthony graduated from T.C. Williams High School where he played football and his talents were fostered and recognized. After graduation, he began his career with Crown Life Insurance Company in the mailroom to later transition into athletic retail management and sales. He finally found his niche in the automotive industry that united his strengths, customer service and troubleshooting. Anthony began his career with Darcars in car sales then moved into the collision department where he worked for numerous area body shops over the past 25 years and for the past 6-years at Caliber Collision.
Anthony was a loving husband who enjoyed sharing scriptures and inspirational texts with his devoted wife Gay. Anthony and Gay met 30 years ago while out with friends in Washington D.C. 10 years later, on August 23, 1997 they were married and to that union they shared a blended family; Ángela, Anthony, Brandon, Justin and Lauren. Avidly engaged in the upbringing of his children, attending field trips, special events, games, dance recitals and was often the only father seen in the waiting room while his daughter finished her dance class. His big heart was not limited to his family but was extended to friends and neighbors.
It was not uncommon for the Williams’ to travel and vacation with other family members and friends. Anthony looked forward to attending family cookouts, gatherings and holiday dinners. He would speak often of his family trips to North Carolina, Tennessee, Oklahoma and New Jersey. One of his most recent memorable trips was when he and a few members of the Davis clan went fishing in Alaska. While he enjoyed the animated and energetic company of others, he was a man who loved his alone time, known to enjoy a private solace moment with his cigar enjoying the outdoors.
An avid sports fan, the fall was his favorite time of the year. His Saturdays were dedicated to college football, University of Alabama games and Sunday afternoons watching the NFL and Dallas Cowboys. A trash talking enthusiast who would hear no smack from the ‘Washington Team’ fans.
Anthony was preceded in death by his father the late Francis R. Williams Sr. He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved mother Nannie Williams; loving wife Gay M. Williams and five children, Ángela E. Phillips, Anthony L. Williams Jr.,Brandon L. Williams-Hayes, Justin A. Williams and Lauren G. Williams; his brother Francis R. Williams Jr. (Penny); nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
