Obituary of Theresa Osunwa Okonkwo

Mama Theresa Osunwa Okonkwo, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, 1st of June, 2021, at The University Of Maryland Midtown Campus hospital. She was born June 24th, 1954, in Mamfe Cameroon, by Nigerian immigrants, Papa Simon Uzoh and Mama Margaret Uzoh. She was the Second of 5 children. 

Her father passed away quite early when mama was still very young and was raised by her mother. Due to the early demise of her father, mama was not able to complete her education.  She attended her primary school in Bethel Baptist Primary School Kumba, and further continued her secondary education in St Francis Home Economics School Fiango, Kumba Cameroon, where she graduated and went into business. She was a very hard working business woman.

She was married and had 6 children; 3 boys and 3 girls. Unfortunately, 3 of her children are of late as well. 

She was a lover of Jesus Christ, and a member of the CWF family in Kumba where she lived the most part of her life.  Mama was a very happy woman through simple pleasures; chatting with her children, grandchildren, friends and family. She was a very loving woman and a mother to all. Mama had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and very positive way. Mama touched many lives with her beautiful soul and her affectionate smile. She remained an inspiration to many. Her strength as a woman was compared to none.

Mama spent 10 years in her native land in Enugu, Nigeria before moving to the United States in Dec 2013, where she lived with her daughter until her demise through a brief illness.  She is survived by her 3 children, Emmaculate, Yvonne and Amaechi; 17 grandchildren, 2 sisters; Grace and Eunice, and a brother, Kingsley. 

Mama will be greatly missed by her family, friends and others whose lives Mama touched.
