Donald Taylor

Obituary of Donald Taylor

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Donald Taylor was born May 2, 1950 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the union of Lucius and Alice Taylor. Donald was the youngest of three children. He was a proud graduate of Carver Senior High, attended Southern University and Sidney Collier Vocational School, and honorably served in the United States Air Force.

In the Air Force, he became a Master Mechanic. And, he was proud to have scored highest in a nationwide HVAC test @ Sidney Collier Vocational School. He was a Mr. Fix-It. Car, AC, or otherwise, if it broke, more than likely he had the tool and knowledge to fix it. After retiring from the Air Force, Donald continued his service as a mechanic at the United States Postal Service (USPS). Donald was a proud, proud product of the 9th Ward/ Desire Area and lived in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina’s winds landed him in the Southern Maryland/ DC area where he continued on at USPS and lived out the rest of his days in Maryland. But, he never forgot his beloved City of New Orleans, its food, his favorite fishing spots, the people, or the Bunny Bread. To him, EVERYTHING including canned goods and bananas taste better in New Orleans.

Donald was baptized at Carver Desire Baptist Church and introduced his sons to Christ. Anyone that knew him knew he loved his sons, he missed his city, he knew scripture, and he told the best stories. Donald earned his rest from a hard-fought battle with cancer on June 8, 2021 at University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center.

Donald leaves to cherish his memory his mother Alice aka Big Maw Maw; his brother Lucius (aka Tent); his sister Diane; his sons Donald (Kenyatta), Kenneth, and Kevin; 5 grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
