Obituary of Albert Franklin Jones, Jr.

On June 8, 2021 Albert Franklin Jones Jr. went home to be with the Lord. Albert Jap or Uncle Albee as known by his friends and family, was born on July 14, 1946, in Aldie of Loudoun County, Virginia, to the late Albert Jones Sr. and Rosetta Jones. He was the first of four children born to that union.

Albert grew up in a close family environment within the community of N. W. Georgetown in Washington, D. C. He was educated in the D. C. Public School System, attending Francis Junior High and Western High (now known as Duke Ellington School for Performing Arts)

In the spring of 1969 Jap married Pat, formerly Patricia Anderson, they were friends from Junior High and High School. Prior to marriage, Jap used to tell his friends he was going to marry that girl some day! Well after some years of going their separate ways, he finally won Pat over. They were married for over 52 years and within this union they had two beautiful daughters, Nikki Jones Payne and Ayana Jones Miles.

Albert was a truck driver for various companies and even drove long distance trucks before beginning his career with Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (METRO) in 1976 as a bus driver During his career with METRO, he advanced to Station manager, Train Operator and later a Train Operator Supervisor He retired in 2007 from the Greenbelt Division after 31 years of service.

When he was younger, Albert played football. His Coach Petey Greene could never understand Albert because he spoke so fast. So, Coach Greene nicknamed him Joe Jap. Albert's love of sports continued whether he was watching on television football, basketball, golf, tennis, you name it, he watched it. After retirement, he loved going to his grandson's basketball games until they were out of high school. He always showed his support and presence. He also had a great mind for remembering statistics of the games. He loved to play Spades and bid whist in his early years, but after retirement he played card games on his computer He was very much into working on cars, fixing things around the house and doing yard work. He was the great handy man of the neighborhood. Albert loved walking in the neighborhood. He would walk miles and in doing so he would stop and talk with people.

Albert had a personality that was spirited, funny and he seemed to draw people to himself. Albert had a deep sense of family and was loved by all, not just in his generosity, but for the way he lived. He always met life head-on and hopeful for tomorrow. He was and will forever be an inspiration to his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know and love him.

Albert leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife, Pat, His siblings Odessa McDaniel (Michael deceased), Anthony M. Jones (Renita) and Addie Smith-El (Anthony, deceased) His children Anthony M. Jones, Karen Williams, Nikki Jones Payne (Kevin), Ayana Jones Miles (Miles) His grandchildren Antonio Robinson, Marshelle Deans, Antionette Jones Depiero (Glen), Anthony 'TJ" Jones, LeAnn Roper (Anthony), Jasmyn Jones-Washington, Jada Jones, Tyon Payne, Janae Jone s-Payne, Dalonte' Taylor, Gary Miles, Deon A. Taylor, Marqus Miles. His great-grandchildren Tierra Rodney Anthony Roper Jr, Ja 'niyah Hicks-Jones, Glen John Depiero, Legend Henry, many nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
