Obituary of Brian Anthony Thomas

Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Brian Anthony Thomas was born Sunday, May 8, 1988 in Washington, D.C. to Brian Alston and Angela Thomas.

Brian was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the age of 33. Although his life was cut short, Brian’s memory and legacy will continue to live on.

Brian spent his childhood and adult years in Washington, D.C.  He was educated in the District of Columbia, attending both private and public schools.

Throughout his life, Brian cultivated many relationships with friends and loved ones.  He took exceptional pride in his special relationship with his grandmother, Shirley Alston, who he loved dearly. They enjoyed spending time with each other, including their weekly trips to the grocery store where he would throw everything except the kitchen sink into the shopping cart.  In his final days, they spent countless evenings together watching Jeopardy and catching up on life.  Brian loved her home cooked meals and was always excited when she baked macaroni and cheese.

As a child, Brian often found solace exploring  the city and looking for new adventures.

He was popular and well admired, constantly looking for opportunities to spark a conversation, make new friends and nurture his curiosity.  Brian was jovial and enjoyed spending time outdoors, dancing and summer vacations with family in Florida. His eagerness to showcase his dance moves was on full display when he secured a win in a dance competition while visiting Universal Studios.  The beach and the pool were the perfect place for him to hone his swimming skills. Amusement parks were his playground; no roller coaster was fast enough to keep up with his adventurous, free spirit.  He spent countless summer days at Six Flags with his best friend and cousin, Marcus Alston. The two were peas in a pod, cooking up mischief and wreaking havoc on anybody who intervened. Their unbreakable bond was strong and always on display.

Brian’s love for sports was cultivated at an early age. He was an avid sports fan and loved all local sports teams, especially the Washington Football Team, formally the Washington Redskins. Brian admired lots of football players, but Sean Taylor was his favorite football player.  He revered Sean’s generosity off the field and his grit and determination on the field.  Brian embodied those same qualities and his life will forever be engrained into the hearts of his loved ones.

Brian also had a love for animals, but especially took a strong liking to dogs. He relished playing video games with family and friends and spent hours trash talking while playing Madden on the PlayStation.  When he wasn’t playing video games, he enjoyed watching wrestling on television and was a zealous WWE fan.

At an early age Brian accepted the Lord as his personal Savior.  He attended multiple churches throughout his life, including First Rock Baptist Church, where he participated in the youth men’s program and other dutiful activities.

Brian was preceded in death by his mother, Angela Thomas.

Brian leaves to cherish his memories: father, Brian;  sister, Anisha (DeWayne); grandmother, Shirley; aunts, Cynthia (Bernard); Marvena; Jakeetah (Mansur); Karlene; Anita; Lydia and Lorraine; cousin and best friend, Marcus and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.  Brian is loved eternally and will be missed by many.
