Please share a memory of Sharon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.                                                            Matthew 5:4

Our beloved Sharon Rector departed this life on July 30, 2017 suddenly but peacefully, at her home in Washington, D.C. She was born on May 8, 1959 to Lydia Thomas and the late Donald D. Rector, Sr. in Washington D.C. She was raised by her mother and Johnnie B Thomas and was one of 6 siblings.  She was surrounded and loved by her family and friends till her last day of life.

Sharon attended D.C. Public Schools. After graduation, her career spanned with the Department of Recreation and she affectionately worked as a health aide to children with special needs. At a very early stage in life, Sharon, was always known by her friends and family as having a caring spirit. If you were in her presence you could feel the abundance of love that poured from her heart. She was also known for the many days and nights of preparing food for all of the family events. She always opened her home to those who needed help and support. Sharon should have opened a restaurant because it was known to come by her house on any given Sunday evening for some delicious fried chicken, tender roast beef, scrumptious liver with rice and gravy, famous potato salad, and delectable collard greens with several other dishes and desserts. She really loved cooking for her family and friends!!!!!

Firmly anchored in the love and teachings of her parents, Sharon joined Greater Mount Calvary Holy Church in 2001. And continued to study the Bible and developed a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of God’s word.

Sharon went to join her beloved sons Burnell (Wink) and Roger (Moonie) and her father Donald in the after- life. Sharon leaves to cherish her memories, her significant other Willard Pray, her children, Evelyn, Shawn, Tanikia and Markeith; stepchildren, Tonya, Tammy, Patrice; her godson,  Tyrone Buster Thornton; twenty-seven  grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her mother Lydia Thomas and  step-father Johnnie B. Thomas. She is also survived by her siblings, Donald, Lawrence (Karen), Johnnie (Sharon), Kevin and Angela; her best friend,  Gloria Payton and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
We will never forget and remain forever grateful for the enduring love and care that she shared with us.
