Obituary of Genevieve Dorothea Carpenter
Genevieve Dorothea Raymond Carpenter was born on September 10, 1923, in Washington, DC to the late Charles “Charlie” and Laura “Daisy” Raymond of Maryland. She was the eldest of three daughters.Genevieve was educated by the District of Columbia Public School System. She was employed by both private companies and federal government. Her employment with the Architect of the Capitol lasted 34 years before retiring in 19__ as a Night-Shift Supervisor.
She joined Mount Mariah Baptist Church at the tender age of 11 and was a faithful member until her passing.She served in many compacity, including Sunday School Teacher, assisted in the food pantry program and became an Usher in _______. In 19__, she became a Deaconess to further God’s program. Her love for God and serving in the church never dwindle. When the young men and women in her neighborhood sought her out for advice and counsel, she encourage them to come to church and ask God for direction.
In 1953 she married Samuel W. Carpenter and enjoyed married life for 58 years before God called her husband home to rest on January 2, 2011.
On Friday, July 15th, she peacefully departed this life after living 97 years. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Charles and Laura Raymond, her husband, Samuel W. Carpenter, sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertha and Marvin Brown of Hamlet, NC, Sarah and Robert Farrow, Sr. of Whitesboro, NJ. She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, sister-in-law, Sarah Ty of Washington, DC , six nieces and nine nephews, three god-daughters and a host of church members, relatives and friends.
