I met Jim Ealey right after I graduated from college in 1976. I just started my first full time job as an employee at the Dept. of Navy. I had to interact with him on a regular basis. He was a consummate professional and became a friend. I miss him dearly.
In the late 1970’s we met Mr Ealey in Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, DC as our Sunday School teacher.
We also had another connection as Tennessee State University alumni. And our southern roots as transplants from Tennessee.
Mr. Ealey always took time to give updates on what was happening on the TSU campus. He also, fought to spread the news and advocated for HBCU’s and sought out new candidates to attend.
We will miss him dearly!

In 1985 at the age of 15, I had honor cruising on the Atlantic Ocean in the Caribbean with my Uncle & Aunt. Along on this journey , was James Ealey, Jr., his Wife, his Daughter & his Son Jay who is the same age that I am. During the course of each dinner on the great trip, Mr. Ealey was a unique person. He would eat his dessert before eating his dinner. For whatever it is worth, it stood out in my mind for a lifetime. At 51 years of age, I thank Cousin Ealey for teaching myself how to be & become unique while not being afraid to do something positive & different.
