Obituary of Irma Theresa Curtis

Please share a memory of Irma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Irma Theresa Curtis was born on November 14, 1944 in Hollywood, MD to the parents of Joseph Albert Curtis (deceased) and Mary Ella Curtis (Bowman) also deceased. She attended Banneker High School in Loveville, MD. Irma moved to Washington, DC in 1969 where she worked in janitorial services for over 30 years where she was a faithful employee. Irma suffered a stroke over five years ago, and has lived in the Unique Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Washington, DC until she went to be with the Lord on October 6, 2021, where she peacefully passed away.

Irma is affectionately known as Irma “T” and was always the belle of the ball.  She enjoyed her family and loved family visits on weekends to dance, eat and joke around. Irma loved to dance.  Although she wasn’t a card player, she enjoyed watching her family playing cards and getting mad because they lost. She did not like football and was outspoken when family spent time watching football instead of engaging with her.

She was a great cook and loved to feed her family and guests. She was great at making different dishes that were so delicious. Irma was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews and imparted into them life wisdoms and lessons. She was always telling us what to look for in people. She had a lot of wisdom and was very outspoken on things that mattered to her.  Her famous saying is “No one is going to mess with Irma “T”.

Irma was the middle of seven children born to her parents. She is the grandmother of seven children and great grandmother of two. She is preceded in death by her first-born son Dennis Gregory Curtis; both of her parents, her brothers (George Albert Curtis and John Calvin Curtis); her sister Loretta Thomas (Pete). She leaves behind her three devoted sons: Joseph “Chuckie” Curtis (Thelma) of Lexington Park, MD; David Curtis and Tyrone Curtis of Washington, DC; two sisters (Noreen Curtis and Jane Curtis Wells) and one brother (Joseph Thomas Spears), as well as a host of nieces, nephews, friends and relatives.
