Obituary of Orlando Ray Willis-Bey
Orlando Willis-Bey, affectionately known as “Boogie”, “Zero” and “O” was born on September 11, 1952 in Washington, D.C., to the Late Mary Magdalene Laney. He was one of two children.
Orlando obtained his GED and the majority of his education while he was incarcerated. That is also where he joined the Moorish Science Temple Of America at age 25, and he remained a Morrish American until the time of his transitioning. He obtained training at Ashworth Career School in Paralegal Studies. He utilized that education at a law firm in SE, Washington, DC. He also used his legal education to assist numerous inmates with their cases. In addition, Orlando worked for the DC Department Of Parks and Recreation, Cease Fire, Don’t Smoke The Brothers & Sisters, as well as Safeway.
Orlando will be remembered for so many things. From his contagious laugh, to his beautiful smile, his sweet tooth, his no nonsense temperament, his dependable, helping hand, his loyalty, and for being a man of his word. Most of all he will be remembered for his beautiful spirit.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife and companion, Phyllis Willis Twyman-El, First Cousins Oscar Pinkney, David Wade, Martin Wade, Martin Cornwell (Ginger), Dan Pinkney, Sophie Green (Sterling), Josie Wade, QuillaMayse, Tomasia Griffin, Patricia Griffin, and Betty Carter. Four step children, twelve step grandchildren and four great grand step children from his previous marriage to the Late Maggie Elizabeth Stoaddard Willis-Bey.
He is preceded in death by his mother Mary Magdalene Laney, brother, Paul, grandparents, three aunts, four uncles. Oscar Cornwell, Martin Cornwell (Katie), Jessie Wade (Marion), and Fannie Pinkney (James), and a host of other friends and loved ones.
