Obituary of Katherine Antoinette Robinson Catoe

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Katherine Robinson Catoe of Ft. Washington, MD., affectionately known as “Kathy”, died peacefully while in hospice care at the Capital Caring Center in Lanham, MD., on November 24, 2017, with her loving husband Darren by her side.

Kathy was born to her extremely proud parents Jacqueline and William Robinson in Washington. D.C., in 1963, and in due time she became the “mother hen” to her two brothers and sister who were to later come on the scene.

She was a 1981 graduate of Largo High School in Largo, MD., and a 1985 graduate of Morgan State University in Baltimore, MD., with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications. As an employee of the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art in our nation's capital, Kathy arranged, participated in, and led many tours at the museum. After 20 years at the African Art museum, she retired as an administrative assistant in 2007.

Kathy became an enthusiastic collector of African art in her own right and assembled an impressive home collection of art, artifacts and facial figurines. She was, as many know, a professional “shopper” and a “resident expert” in many areas, such as medicine, marketing, social and political issues, pharmacy, and jewelry, especially bracelets. She only wore about 25 (that's 25 on each arm) and amassed dozens and dozens of dolls and pocketbooks!! To find solace from all this activity, she habitually started each Sunday morning listening to her favorite gospel music radio station.

In addition to her husband of 16 years, Kathy is survived by her son, Sterling Sylver (Michel), her daughter, Shai-Maya Dorsey Dawson (Kwame); granddaughter, Harmony Dawson; parents, William G. and Jacqueline J. Robinson; brothers, William G. Robinson, Jr. (Lisa) and David C. Robinson (Lauren); sister, Erica Robinson Harper (Patrick); aunts, Pearline Robinson Humbles and Janice Johnson Hunter (Johnathan); nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her father-in-law and mother in law, Rodwell and Jacqueline Catoe, her brothers-in-law, Marlon (Gail) and Michael (Kristal) and many other relatives and friends.

Life

Life is just a stepping-stone, a pause before we make it home

A simple place to rest and be, until we reach eternity.

Everyone has a life journey, a path to take with lots to see

God guides our steps along the way, but we were never meant to stay.

Our final destination is a place filled with love, His majesty and grace

Today we celebrate the life of a loved one, who has gone before us,

the race she has won.

Her journey has now ended, her spirit has ascended claiming the great reward

 with Jesus, our Lord.
