Obituary of Anthony Jerome Naylor Sr.

Mr. Anthony “Tony” J. Naylor, Sr. entered his eternal resting place Saturday, November 25, 2017

Tony was born on January 8, 1950 in Frederick, MD. He was the son of the late James Joseph Naylor Sr. and Virginia Bernice Thomas Naylor. Tony attended Frederick High and worked at Frederick County Public Schools before retirement. Tony was of the Methodist faith. In his early life, Tony was the lead singer of the locally famous band Tony and the Newports. With his band he traveled up and down the east coast covering many No. 1 hits with his smooth and soulful R&B sound.

Tony was notoriously well dressed; you would never catch him with a wrinkle. He would always take his time to get ready and wouldn’t leave the house until his look was perfected.

Preceding him in death was his father, James Joseph Naylor Sr., his mother, Virginia Bernice Thomas Naylor, his brother Ronald Bertron Naylor, and his great-grand daughter, Khloe Marie Dotson.

Tony is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Naylor, his four children, Anthony Naylor Jr. (Heather), Lamont Jerome Hall, Jasmine and Jayda Naylor,his siblings, Sylvia, James (Emma), and Jody Naylor, Inje Naylor-Willis, and Stefan Goines (Mary), Uncle, Rudolph Jurricks (Debra), and; In addition, he is survived by two-step daughters, Kammi Gray, Koffi Naylor, four grand children, three great-grand children, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and devoted friends Bruce Lake, and Tyrone Smallwood.
