Obituary of Antoine Komlan Mensah
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD” Psalms 37:23
On Tuesday, October 29, 1968, Antoine Komlan Mensah was born to proud parents, Jona Akouete Mensah and Rose Evelyn Curley at George Washington University Hospital in Washington,D.C.
As a native Washingtonian, Antoine grew up in the Adams Morgan and later the Foggy Bottom neighborhoods. Antoine received his early education from D.C. Public schools, before transferring into the catholic school system. He attended St. John College High School and Mackin Catholic High School. He graduated from Mackin Catholic High School, as a proud Trojan man. While attending Mackin, he became a part of a brotherhood that would remain strong, even to this day. In 1987, Antoine enrolled in the University of District of Columbia studying Business Administration.
In December of 1987, Antoine met, the love of his life, LaVourn at the bus stop on 14th and Clifton Street N.W., in Washington, DC. From that day, they were inseparable. As their relationship progressed, Antoine wanted to make sure her family and friends knew that he was falling in love with her. So, on October 25, 1991, Antoine and LaVourn united in holy matrimony. Their marriage was a union of two best friends, who were captivated with each other. To everyone who had the pleasure of seeing Tony and Vern grow, they were a matrimonial dream team. From this union, they are the proud parents of two wonderful and handsome boys, Antoine (Kofi) and Zylen Mensah. His boys gave him a level of pride that far surpassed any measurements. Antoine was the true epitome of a father's love for Kofi and Zylen. He was an undeniably family-oriented man.
Antoine had many talents that always led back to the betterment of his family. From an early age, he understood the assignment of investing in himself. He started his career path as a car salesman. During this time, he would improve his business skills and master his smoothness for interacting with people. Then in 1990, Antoine took a leap of faith and decided to go into business for himself. He had many successful businesses starting with Dynamic Marketing Group, then with CommNet Paging, 2Brothers Clothing, and Wireless Connection before transitioning into real estate. Antoine has been a licensed realtor in the DMV area since 2009. "Tony the Realtor" as many knew him, took a unique approach in real estate sales and marketing to ensure every client became a client for life. While being a 5-star realtor, he started two more business ventures. He became a loan officer at All Homes Financial and launched SayCheeze Photography. He had a mindset that anything is possible with hard work and dedication.
Antoine Mensah was a savvy businessman by trade but to those who knew him, Tony was so much more. He was an impressive, well dress, bowtie-wearing gentleman who had a positive impact on so many lives. Antoine can shift from a businessman to a teacher or counselor in the blink of an eye. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, by explaining the most complicated thing in a way even a child could understand.
On January 22, 2022, God called Antoine home to be with him. He was preceded in death, by his father Jonas Mensah, grandmother Hazel Curley and Aunt Bessie Curley.
Through the lens of various cameras and videos, he recorded a lifetime of memories and adventures that LaVourn, Kofi, and Zylen will have to treasure. His lessons and love will forever live in our hearts.
Antoine leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 30 years LaVourn Mensah, his two sons.
