Remembering Troy

Troy Donnell Parks (TDERP) transitioned to begin his journey of eternal life on Friday, March 11, 2022, at 10:52 p.m. at the Bradford Oaks Center in Clinton, Maryland. Troy was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Troy was born on December 2, 1965, in Newark NJ to the late Andrew B. Allen and Marion Parks. He was the youngest of five children conceived in this union. Troy was so loved that he was blessed to have three mothers and two fathers during his lifetime.

Troy’s uncle Wilbert and aunt Pearl became his second set of parents after they adopted him when he was a child. Troy treasured his time with his dad, especially when he would travel back and forth between Rocky Mount, NC and Zebulon, NC to compete in dirt bike competitions. Troy was so good at dirt bike racing that he earned the nickname “Lil Demon.”

Troy attended Charles Young Elementary School in Northeast, Washington, DC, and Bladensburg High School in Bladensburg, Maryland, where he was known for his quick wit and outgoing personality. Troy was very popular in school and loved running and staying fit. He ultimately became one of the school’s track stars. While at Bladensburg High, he met, fell in love with, and ultimately married his high school sweetheart Micheline Joseph (Reid) at age 21. During this union, he became a dad to the love of his life, Yasmeen LaTroya Parks. He loved his daughter tremendously and would have given her the world if he could have. Anyone who knew him knew how much he loved his baby girl.

Troy was very funny, sarcastic, bold, intelligent, flirtatious, and fun to be around—and he would not be caught without a fresh hair cut! His favorite football team was The Washington Redskins (Commanders). Troy loved to dance and was often the life of any party as he danced all over the place. He enjoyed listening to music, especially Reggae and GoGo, and even Gospel as he would tune in to WHUR every Sunday morning for the Gospel segment. Troy believed in God and was a faithful praying man. He was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes at the age of 24 and was determined to live a full life despite his illness!

Troy worked several jobs including a car salesman at Darcar/Lanham-Ford, store manager at Auto Zone, and the job he was most proud of was at Capitol Building Supply where he worked with his dad, Wilbert Parks, and his cousins.

Troy leaves to cherish his mother, Lucille Parks (Wilbert); (ex-wife) Micheline Reid (Donovan); daughter, Yasmeen LaTroya Parks; his only granddaughter, Nova Giselle Frierson; Terahn (godson); sisters Kim Etheridge, Jean Allen-Carlos (David), Patria Allen-Robinson, Janice, Joyce, Gloria, and Ebony; brothers Warren Anderson (Miranda), Wilbert Parks Jr. (Tanisha); Andrew Jr., and Billie.

Troy was special to his loving nieces and nephews: (twins) Donita and Datisha, Edasha, Dominique, Peyton, Ashley, and Ava; nephews Pajon, William, Lequan, Maron, Garry Jr, Antonio, DavRay, Warren Jr., and Jhalin; great nieces Cara and Taylor; great nephews Troy, Ryan, Ka’ceyon, Ma’ceyon, Joshua, Aiden, Nova, KesleyChanel, Wilbert, Traevon, and Porshalyn; first cousins, Terria McAllister and her brother Vaun Thomas

He also leaves to cherish his memories: uncles Bobby, Morris, Raymond, Thurman, Calvin and Charles; aunts Pat, Lorain, Sylvia, Lula, Dorothy, Burdell, Mary, Myrtle and Lucille; favorite brother-cousins Jerome and Kip; best friends Darryl Brown, Darryl Coleman and Michael Fluker, and let’s not forget about “Janetboo” who was just like a sister to him, and a host of other family members and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his brother Anthony Allen, beloved mother Pearl Parks, Father Wilbert Parks, uncle Calvin, and aunts Lessie, Marie and Etheline -- just to name a few.

Troy leaves behind a legacy of love, patience, kindness, fearlessness, dancing, cooking, hardships and memories.

Special thanks to his sister Patria for the tender loving care and dedication she provided when he needed it the most.
