Obituary of Audilon Augustin

Please share a memory of Audilon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Audilon Augustin also known to many as (Jacob), 77, passed away in the early morning on Sunday, July 31, 2022, at his daughter’s home in Lanham, MD.

Mr. Augustin was born on November 6, 1944, in Saint Marc, Haiti. Losing him so suddenly is devastating for all of us.  He was an incredible man who will be remembered for his generosity, kindness and positivity. His early years consisted of working with his father farming rice, potato, eggplant, okra, plantain and various other vegetables and animals in L ’Artibonite, Haiti. After the death of his father, Mr. Augustin continued in his father’s footsteps by tending his own farm in the same area while supporting his mother.

In September of 1985, with the support of his sisters who were already living in the United States, Mr. Augustin migrated to the United States in search of a better life to support his children. In Washington, DC, he worked two full-time jobs to support himself, his family, and his children. In the late-nineties and early 2000s, Mr. Augustin made it possible for his children to join him in the United States.

Mr. Augustin had a passion for music.  He was a former local band member who loved to sing and play the guitar. He found joy attending live Kompa concerts. Mr. Augustin was known for his charming smile and stylish attire, including a plethora of guayabera shirts and khaki pants. Mr. Augustin prided himself on his peaceful, non-confrontational, no-drama demeanor. Laughter was common in conversations with Mr. Augustin. Many would talk, saying his stories were old but funny.  To make sure the other person was listening, he would say “Wap koute’m?”

In 2017, Mr. Augustin retired from The Colonnade Condominiums with over 30 years of service. In his later years, Mr. Augustin built a house in his hometown, Lubin, Haiti, for his extended family and he could be found watching cowboy movies with his children and travelling back and forth to Haiti to visit other family members.

Mr. Augustin is survived by 13 children; Celita Augustin, Roland Augustin, Recilia Augustin, Roseline Augustin, Jacques Augustin, Lucifie Augustin, Magre Augustin, Reneau Augustin, Sandra Augustin, Jean Rene Augustin, Natude Augustin, Linda Augustin, Jeannette Augustin, 32 grandchildren, 2 sisters; Melina Augustin, Lumene Augustin, and 1 brother; Cebien Augustin.
