Obituary of Marjorie Earl Evans
Our beloved Marjorie, also fondly known as Bunny, was born on July 24,1940 in Raleigh, North Carolina, to the late James Taylor Dendy and Mary Battle. After completing high school at Former J.W. Ligon High School in Raleigh North Carolina (1958), she relocated to the Washington D.C area where she enrolled in a Business School program which led to employment with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After 30 years of employment, Bunny retired from the Federal Government as a Legal Secretary for the Office of General Counsel.
Bunny had several interests which included sewing, crossword puzzles, and reading. She loved playing board games, especially Scrabble, as well as card games: Rummy, Bid Whist and Spades.
During family fellowships, Bunny would bring her specialty meals, such as her famous sweet potato pies, signature potato salad and macaroni and cheese in which she would always make extras for her neighbors and each family member to take home after fellowship.
Bunny had a love for her family like no other, adored spending time with her grandchildren, and was a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for more than 40 years.
After suffering a heart attack, Bunny transitioned peacefully to eternal rest on August 3 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center.
Bunny leaves to cherish her memory, daughter Stephanie Beatty, (James Beatty), daughter Frankie Abellano (Jerome Abellano), and daughter Jamie Evans. Eight grandchildren, Sydney V. Evans, Brady Thompson, Jr., James Taylor Beatty, Justin Beatty, Jordan Evans, Hannah M. Abellano, Tyler Johnson, and Xavier McFadden. Three first cousins, Mr. George (Skinner) Dendy of Washington D.C., his daughter Gloria Dendy, Mr. Leroy Dendy of (South Carolina), and Mr. Dan Wolfe of (North Carolina). Extended family, Liza and Jonathan Abellano, Mey Contreras, and several cousins of Philadelphia, PA, and Elizabeth City, North Carolina. One childhood friend, Ms. Helen Lilly of Raleigh, North Carolina, her dearest friends Ms. Betty Paschall, Mr. James Adams, Mr. Roland Craig, neighbor Mr. Rob, her hair stylist for more than 30 years, Ms. Terri Owens, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Bunny had the most beautiful silver hair, precious gray eyes, and a smile that would light up any room she walked in. She will be greatly missed, yet, forever in our hearts.
