Obituary of Lawrence Tucker

Please share a memory of Lawrence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lawrence Tucker was born in Emporia, Virginia July 15, 1939 to Hattie Ruth Tucker and Joseph Sills. He was the oldest of Hattie’s four children.

Lawrence was raised in Emporia by his maternal grandmother Georgeanna until the age of five. His mother Hattie moved him to New York where he completed his education. Larry relocated to Washington, DC in 1961 to stay with his sister Laura. He worked for the Environmental Protection Agency for as a Xerox Technician for 20 years until his retirement in 1995.

“Uncle” as he was affectionately known by his niece, nephews and grandnephew never missed a birthday, award program or graduation. He was once asked what his name was because everyone just called him uncle. He didn’t need or want another title. He was full of jokes. He could find something funny in any situation. He loved sports, any kind of sports. He was a die-hard Redskins fan. If the Redskins was on, you couldn’t talk to him until the game was over. He had a set date with his friends at the neighborhood Roy Rogers every weekend. He would go to the liquor store to play his numbers although he quit smoking 27 years ago when Josh was born. He enjoyed home-cooked meals, especially holiday meals with all the trimmings.

He was preceded in death by his younger brother George Thomas Tucker and younger sister Gloria Jean Tucker. He is survived by his twin sister Laura Mills, his wife Victoria Tucker, niece Teima Mills, grandnephews Jason, Jonathan, Jeffery, Joshua, and Jeremy Mills.
