Obituary of Freida Sonja Greene
Freida Sonja Allen Greene was born April 12, 1937 in Rock Hill, South Carolina to the late Maria Allen-Rodman and William Allen. She departed Thursday, February 22, 2018. Frieda was the fourth youngest of five siblings. She was educated in the Rock Hill Public School system, graduating from high school at Emmitt Scott Grade School in Rock Hill. After graduating from high school, Freida attended and graduated from Friendship College in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Freida met her devoted husband, Thomas A. Greene of 60 years while attending Friendship College. Through that union, they had four children, Cassandra (Robert) Skipper, Thomas II (Marilyn), Darryl (Donna) and Terisena (Shawn) Harmon.
Freida relocated to Washington, DC in 1965 when Thomas was stationed at the Pentagon while serving in the U.S Air Force. She worked at the Bolling Air Force Base Exchange (BX) for several years. In 1972, she entered federal service and worked for the Department of the Army at the Pentagon. After 23 years with the Department of the Army she retired in 1995. She was a member of City of Praise Church in Landover, MD.
Freida was affectionately known as “Love” by her family and their friends. Love was very opinionated and you just learned to agree with her. She was the “cut-up” relative that had you shaking your head. Freida’s home was always open to her children’s friends and many of them looked at her as their second mom. She loved cooking, entertaining and making the holidays special for her family. Although she couldn’t dance, she loved music, especially James Brown. You could call her at any time, just not when she was watching General Hospital or Jim Vance on Channel 4 News.
Freida was preceded in death by her two brothers, Henry Allen and Rudolph Harrison, one sister, Daisy Faggart and three brother-in-laws, Jacob Faggart, Clifford Seay and Rev. Dr. Jerry White. She is survived by her two loving sisters, Ruby Seay (Tinton Falls, NJ) and Frankie White (Huntersville, NC); 12 grandchildren: Shakita, Robert, Demond (Tracy), Akesha, Marcus, Chantel, Darryl F. (Cindy), Darryl G., Symone, Daevon, Monet and Tonya; 5 great-grandchildren: Dajuan, Kamari, Armani, Christopher and Nevaeh; sister-in-laws, Jeannette Flowers and Mary Lou Wright, brother-in-laws, Alexander, James and Jerry Greene, a very special cousin, Jeanne Bowman and a host of nieces and nephews.
A very special thank you to our special friends, adopted siblings and Mom’s former co-workers at the Pentagon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Alzheimer’s Association at (https://alz.org/donate.asp); in honor of her sister Frankie White who is living with Alzheimer's.
