Obituary of Marye Stacey Priest-Alcorn

A Time To Be Born:

Marye Stacey Priest-Alcorn was born to the late Thomas H. and Eunice Hazel Priest on August 12, 1960 in Fort Bragg, NC. She was affectionately known as “Stacey.” A short time after the passing of her mother in 1972,  Stacey was cared for by the loving family of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Griffin.

A Time To Plant:

Stacey graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Willingboro, NJ and later attended Widener University in Chester, PA. 

She was employed by the United States Postal Service in Philadelphia, PA in 1994 and transferred to Clinton, MD in 2006 where she later retired after 24 years of service in January 2018.

Stacey was a member of First Baptist Church of Glenarden, under the leadership of Pastor John K. Jenkins Sr. where she served, for a short time on the Hospitality Ministry. She exercised her spiritual gifts of serving and helping others. You felt welcomed in her presence. She loved her church and at every opportunity, she would extend an invitation to everyone to visit mimicking Pastor Jenkins “this here is a good church”.

Her favorite scripture was: Psalm 118: 24 – This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. 

A Time To Love:

Stacey met Kenneth Anderson in the late 1980’s and they were blessed with their eldest daughter Asya Lorene Anderson in 1987. She was later united in holy matrimony to Brian S. Alcorn in 1998 and to this union, two children were born - Briana Shelby Alcorn and Thomas James Alcorn. Her family was complete.

Stacey had a gift of expression and laughter, she knew no stranger. Her giving spirit would allow her to open heart to anyone in need of help, advice or if you just needed a friend. People gravitated towards her magnetic presence.

Her hobbies included: swimming, avid reader, grocery shopping, cooking, watching a good movie, bowling, she enjoyed  listening to all genres of music. Tupac Shakur was one of her favorite artist, dancing, playing Candy Crush (reaching levels over  1000) She LOVED the Dallas Cowboys and was nick named “Texas” after returning from 2 years in Dallas, TX. She adopted the name “track-mom” by many of the members of the Westlake High School Track Team in Waldorf, MD. She supported her children in their many endeavors. When her children were younger, her home was affectionately tagged as the “kool-aid” house because she had the snacks, the food and the kool-aid.  

A Time To Transition:

Stacey departed this life on Saturday, April 21, 2018 in Waldorf, MD.

A Time To Mourn:

She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving and devoted children: two daughters, Asya Lorene  Anderson and Briana Shelby Alcorn; one son -Thomas James (TJ) Alcorn; two grandchildren, Amaiyah Ruley and Donte Ruley Jr. who they affectionately called her “MiMi; two brothers, Rev. Dr. Thomas H. Priest Jr. and Rev. Craig K. Priest; three sisters, Sharon Y. Priest, Sandra Y. Howell and Cheryl D. Priest; two sisters-in-law, Margaret C. Priest and LaEster Priest; nieces, Kenetra Johnson, Kenesha Robinson (Dennis Robinson), Ashanti Fitchett (Rob Fitchett), Ashley Hopkins (Leonard Hopkins), Missale Priest, Kehrie Willis (Jeremiah Willis) and Tamara Priest; nephews, Xavier Priest and Miguel Priest; grand nieces, Kendelyn Johnson, Amahni Fitchett, Kassidy Johnson, Ashlyn Hopkins and Morgan Robinson;  grand nephews; Robert Fitchett Jr, Garrett Robinson, Myles Robinson and Ryan Fitchett; great grand niece, Winter Barber; great grand nephew: Marley Barber; Cousins- the entire Younger family; god mothers, Gerie Sterrette-Cooper and Yewande Wynn; Entire Griffin Foster Family and Cousin Michelle Moore and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family Members that Preceded Stacey in Death:

Stacey was preceded in death by her father, Thomas H. Priest Sr.; mother, Eunice Hazel Priest; Husband, Brian S. Alcorn; aunt, Marye Younger, affectionately known as “Granny;” brother, Michael B. Priest; brother-in-law, Greg Barnett; and Asya’s father, Kenneth Anderson.
