Obituary of Darnell Turner
Darnell Turner was born on July 20, 1962 in
Washington, DC to the proud parents of Johnny and
Angeline Turner (Boyd). Darnell was raised in northeast
D.C., where he was educated in DCPS. As a youth, Darnell expressed an interest in baseball, which he claimed he was
“good” at, but who knows for sure.
After high school, Darnell learned a trade and began a career in construction, restoration and maintenance services. Darnell worked on the Stanton Glenn property for 17 years.
During this time he gained many long-term friends, most of
whom affectionately called him “brother,” “Uncle D” or “Pops.”
Darnell never turned his back on anyone.
On May 10, 2018, he succumbed to an ongoing battle
with his health. His loving and devoted wife Crela Smith-Turner
preceded him in death, parents Johnny and Angeline Turner, and
sisters Darlene Turner, Denise Garner and Arlene
Turner-Richmond.
Darnell will deeply be missed and leaves to mourn
but cherish his memories daughters Quiana Curtis, Tamika
Curtis and Marquita Curtis-Jackson, son Darnell DJ Curtis,
granddaughter Audrey Curtis-Jackson, brothers Warren
Turner, Anthony Turner, Allen Turner, Johnny Turner (Helena)
Leonard Murray, and Raynard Turner, sisters Sheila Brooks
(Earl), and Louise Scott (Arthur), and a host of nieces, nephews,
cousins, family and friends.
Darnell will always be remembered for the love he had
for his family. He enjoyed spending time with family, watching the
news, house restoration, reading, history, making jokes, and being
a loyal fan to his favorite team, the Washington Redskins. His
memories will forever be cherished and he will never be forgotten.
