Obituary of Ilrosa Francoise Louis

Ilrosa Franciose Louis passed away peacefully at her home in Silver Spring, surrounded by her family on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the age of 108 years.

Affectionately known as Doune, she was born on February 19, 1910 in Ducis Cayes Haiti, Village situated in the south of Haiti. She was married to Legrave Louis on July 14,1940 in Ducis, Cayes. He preceded her in death March 26, 1994

Madam Legrave was a hard-working woman who believed strongly in education and being independent. Although she did not have a college degree, she managed with the little business that she had to send all her children to private school, Sacred Heart Catholic School.

A devout catholic, Grandma Doune was a member of the Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church where she attended Mass every single Sunday until her recent illness this year. She will be always remembered as a loving mother and grandmother and whose greatest passion was helping others.

Grandma Doune lived her life to the fullest. She lived a healthy life by eating fresh fruits and vegetables that she ate from her garden that she planted every summer. Futhermore, she loved to exercise by taking a walk twice a day in her neighborhood. The neighbors would inquire on her wellbeing when they did not see Grandma on her walks. Grandma Doune’s secrect to her longevity is praying for 2-3 hours daily.

One of her favorite saying is “Mwen pa gen lajan poum ba ou men depim pran chaplem mwen pral kot met la pou ou!” 

She is survived by her five daughters: Rose Michel, Ann- Marie Louis, Rose Petit, and her twins Josette Louis, Jeannine Louis, six loving grandchildren: Edwige Petit, Stanley Petit, Frank Michel, Rosemay Petit, Florence Michel, Jeremy Quartey and 7 great-grandchildren Dominique, Intza, Gretchen, Renee- Marie, Edwin, Nathaniel, Jacque, Fadjie, Justin, Angelo, Emily, Sariya, and Laila, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She adopted many Children and grandchildren a few were Dominque Belizaire, Frantz Michel and Sam Jones.
