A Time to Be Born

Robert, the oldest son of Elder Watson Lee Bellinger, Sr. and the late Mother Frontis Bellinger, was born on May 8, 1948 in Washington, DC.  As a young child, Robert always had an infectious smile and very kind heart. As he matured through his childhood, Robert never fail to ensure everyone he encountered felt loved and valued.   He was an avid fan of baseball, old school music, family gatherings, more importantly, he was ahuge fan of the Washington REDSKINS football team! 

Robert was known for his dignity and character, which was exhibited in his outward dressing and demeanor.  His keen organizational skills contributed to how he methodically managed his life and home.  A man who made certain that his collection of 40 hats matched his shoes, his coats, ties, and suits.  A man whose walk was smooth, yet gentle.  A man whose mouth was always filled with uplifting and complimentary words.  Thank God for the molding of a man such as Robert!

In 1966, Robert graduated from Chamberlain High School, Washington DC.  His love for people extended beyond his high school years at Chamberlain.  He served as a liaison for the class of 1966 and ensured that his schoolmates remained in communication as they enter adulthood.  Robert treated his schoolmates like they were family.   His commitment was evident; in that, he kept an organized folder of all class reunions, classmates both living and deceased, photos, and contact numbers.    

A Time to Love

In his early adulthood, Robert married the former Loretta Jones from Washington, DC.  From this union, God blessed them with Robin and Robert, “the Twins” and Andrea Bellinger.  Later in life, Robert married Denise Strong from Washington, DC and from this union he was blessed with two additional sons, Raphael and Rodney.

A Time to Serve

Robert was a diligent worker with a strong work ethic.   In 1978, Robert enlisted in the United States Army and served in various arenas of the military.  During this tenure, he specialized and worked as a Dental Lab Specialist.  He was endowed with several commendations and awards to include, but not limited to, The American Legion Roll of Honor; Army National Guard for being an Exceptional Soldier with a Wholesome Personality; National Defense Service Medal; Expert MarksmanshipBadge Rifle/Grenade; The Meritorious Service Award as Assistant Noncommissioned Officer in Charge; and Army Achievement Medal 1stClass.   Robert was indeed a man of honor!  Later, he graduated from Pikes Peak Community College with an Associate Degree in General Studies.   After faithfully serving his country, Robert was honorablydischarged and retired as Staff Sargent on his birthday, May 8, 2008.

After retirement, Robert was able to spend more time with his family, travel, and attend musical concerts.  In addition, his lineage began to expand, as more grandkids and great grandkids were born.  He unselfishly loved his family.

A Time to Worship

In the early 60’s, Robert along with his family joined Highway Christian Church of Christ in Washington DC under the leadership of the late Bishop J.V. Lomax.  Robert attended services faithfully until his career had him to move from the Washington DC area.  He later returned and joined Bible Way Church Worldwide, Washington DC and most recently begin to attend the National Church of God, Oxon Hill, MD.  Robert was often found reading the Word of God and had a love for great gospel music.  In fact, you could always find a bible throughout his home.

A Time to Rest

During the evening hours on Friday, July 6, 2018, he quietly and peacefully transitioned to his spiritual home after a short illness while admitted at Walter Reed National Military Center.  A few days earlier, prior to the Lord calling him home, he asked to see all his kids and grandkids.  This brought a smile to his face while a blanket of peace covered him.  As he prepared for his home in glory, he looked at his daughter-in-law, and said “daughter get me out, let me go.” Understanding the pain and suffering, with tears, but a peace that surpasses allunderstanding, she replied, “Dad take your rest.” 

A Time to Celebrate

Robert leaves to celebrate his life and legacy, his children:  Robin, Robert (Alesha), Andrea, Raphael, and Rodney. Parent:  Elder Watson Lee Bellinger, Sr. and (Mother Frontis Bellinger deceased); Brothers and Sisters: William Brown, Kathleen, Vivian, LaVerne, Mary, Watson Jr. (Angela), Frontis Marie (Robert Boston, deceased), Arnold (Angela),Bernard, Brenda, and Michael (deceased) (Joanne).  13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
