Obituary of Eric Cortez Hundley
Eric Cortez Hundleywas born April 26, 1976 to the Union of Thomas J. Hundley Jr. & Ella Mae Hundley in East St. Louis, Illinois. He departed this life on July 11, 2019. Eric was the 5th to be born of 7 children, who were all raised in a very tight and close knit family. In 1980 it was determined that the family would thrive, become more successful and live a much better lifestyle by relocating to another Metropolitan area. This new start began for Eric at age 6 in Reston, Virginia. ---- A place that he would affectionately call home. At an early age, Eric was taught to keep God first in all that he did. He loved Christ, the church, and its’ family values. He received his Christian training under the leadership of Bishop Douglas E. Williams, Senior Pastor of Healing The Land Ministries (Formerly Redeemed Temple of Jesus Christ) Washington D.C. There he was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Eric was a young man who valued learning, faith, food, fun and family. He received his education in Fairfax County Public Schools located in Fairfax County, Virginia. He was also a star athlete who ran track& enjoyed playing the game of football. He loved watching Kung Fu movies of any type, but especially Bruce Lee. Reading books was another one of Eric’s favorite pastimes. However, his love of reading wasn’t wasted on just any old book. He loved to educate himself about philosophy and life. Eric looked forward to family functions, because it was time for everyone to come together. The gathering of family meant he was gonna eat some of the best foods. Not only that, but they would also share some gut busting laughs. It goes without saying, that Eric simply loved living a wholesome life and having a good time.
Eric was a talented creative expressionist who was an excellent poetry writer. In his youth he participated in many activities & organizations in church such as the choir as well as neighborhood and school talent shows. His love for music was strong. It was discovered that rhyming was one of his hidden talents. Eric, never limited himself to only the things he knew he could do. On the contrary, if he could imagine himself doing it, then he would do just that ---- never allowing himself to be restricted, but always exploring his own capacity to do more. Eric had a way with words and didn’t mind showing compassion toward others. No matter the situation, one could always count on him for an uplifting word of advice and/ or some help, He always wanted to make sure that those whom he held close to his heart were ok --- that’s what we will ALL miss the most.
Eric’s dad, Thomas J. Hundley, Jr. preceded him in death. Eric leaves to cherish his fond memory : his mother; Ella Mae Hundley; his daughter, Garmai Shari Hundley (Shug); three brothers; Thomas, Kendrick & Demetrius Hundley, ( Nakia-Gant); three sisters; Keena Hundley-Washington (Jay), Tracy Hundley & Crystal Hundley-Johnson (Johnathan); A host of nieces, nephews, Great nieces, Great nephews, Cousins and many good friends.
