Obituary of Darelrene Davenport
I have fought the good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day and not to me only but unto them also that love His appearing. ~ II Timothy 4:7-8
Ms. Darelrene Davenport, daughter of the late Mrs. Catherine Jones McMillan and late Mr. Moses Davenport, was born on 13 January 1957 in Cumberland County, North Carolina. She departed this life on 27 February 2021 at Casey House-Montgomery Hospice.
Darel, as she was commonly known by her friends and family, attended High School in Hoke County. She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Livingston College, Salisbury, NC and a Master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Connecticut. Darel loved the Lord and was an active member at the Refreshing Springs Church of God in Christ. She was known by her colleagues and the behavior health community in DC for her selfless and non-judging service to a very large community of individuals in various stages of mental health sickness. She made a positive impact over the lives of many people during her 25 plus years of government service. She had a God-given gift to reach people who were otherwise unreachable.
Darel leaves to cherish her loving and profound memories: four brothers, Joey Davenport, Kenneth McMillan (Rogette) of Delaware, Donald McMillan of Atlanta, GA, and Wayne McMillan of South Carolina; two sisters, Debra Davenport of Raleigh, NC, and Deborah Brown of Greensboro, NC, her best friend Clara Miller of Washington, DC, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other loved ones and friends.
