Obituary of Charles Phillip Lindsey

Phil was born May 13, 1935, to the late Charlie Madison Lindsey and the late Lucy Beverly-Lindsey, in Richmond, Virginia.  He was baptized at an early age.  He was the 4th and last child of his parents and was told he made his first steps the day of his beloved mother’s passing when he was 11 months.  Later on Phil’s father remarried to Elizabeth Samuels and their union included 8 more siblings. 

Phil’s life wasn’t easy growing up into a man; he had to face many challenges and he conquered most.  He relocated to Washington, and in 1968 he met the love of his life Sandra T. Pryor was united in marriage in April 1977.  This union included his only begotten son William C. Lindsey and his daughter Marion D. (Lois) Lindsey, daughter Cassandra (Cassie) O. Pryor (predeceased) and his daughter DeVoni D. (DeDee) Lindsey-Gale signed, sealed and delivered.  Phil and Sandy blended together and created a union filled with love, life and laughter.

Phil had many jobs but the most important one was working for the District Government Department of Public Works, Tree Division as a Tree Inspector.  He served over 40 years including coming back for 5 years as a consultant because he didn’t think the Tree Division would be successful without him and he proved them right.  He made many friends along the way and even joined clubs but one in particular was the Watergate Earpluggers, a CB club.  He had the biggest antenna ever which interrupted many TV shows in many homes when he lived on Clay Street, Washington, DC.

Phil loved hard and strong.  He didn’t take any mess from nobody.  He was a man of wisdom and with great characteristics.  He loved to smile and make others feel warmed and welcomed.  He was there for anyone who needed him.  He was generous and cared about everyone.  He loved to have libations, sing, dance, make people laugh, watch sports especially the Washington Football team and the Washington Nationals.  He loved to watch boxing and predict winnings.  He was a strong lottery player who had some good winnings but always had dreams of becoming rich and taking care of his entire family.  When it came to singing and playing the guitar, those were some of the best times of his life.  The Beverly side of him caused him to sing forever; all the way up to his last few days when he sang to his family and the nurses who came to visit him.  

Phil passed away on July 8, 2021 at the age of 86.  During his transition to glory Phil was surrounded by his devoted wife, children and grandchildren where he resided his last few weeks in Waldorf, MD.  He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell. Just like he dealt with all experiences in life, he managed his illness with God’s strength and grace.  He weathered the storm for 4 years which included multiple visits to the hospitals, rehabilitation centers, amputations and staying Covid19 free. One thing for sure, two things for certain he didn’t allow any of his ailments to bring him down.  Of course he had some hard times adjusting but he fought with all his might to the end.
